Drunk Philosophy on Happiness

*previously written and recently edited*

This was written somewhere in between falling asleep and contemplating if I should change my outfit on getting home after a long night and in the space of a few hours, I have been conflicted on posting it. So if you ever see this, I most likely decided to share it.

Recently, most of the conflict I have been feeling has to do with the word happiness as I don’t think there should be one definition to what happiness means. If you ever asked around, you will come to discover that to some, happiness is temporary and they are okay with that as they have realized that one can’t always be happy. For others, it’s a permanent state of mind and the ability to see the good and feel at peace even when life poses it challenges.

Having come a long way from moments where it was important that I was validated by people I felt mattered, I have had to come up with the definition of what happiness means to me. I have come to realize that for me, happiness is coming to terms with who I was and who I am even in moments where I was left with my doubts, fears and uncertainties. Happiness for me is peace and doing life the way I want to do it, regardless of whatever opinions others have. Happiness for me is being honest about every feeling and constantly working to have true peace of mind and balance in an unexplainable way. In being genuinely happy, I am able to truly radiate joy, make impact that aligns with purpose while giving others the space and inspiration to be themselves fully and live their truth without judgement.

Ultimately, we all define what happiness means to us and determine what, who or the why that causes us to be happy and that’s ok as long as we are constantly working towards a state where we can honestly say ‘I am happy’ and mean every word.
